Timber Harvesting

DTMC offers quality timber harvesting services to our landowner clients. We work with each client individually to harvest their property in a manner that best meets their goals and objectives. We understand that timber harvesting can be a complex and overwhelming decision for a lot of landowners.  Our staff of foresters work with you throughout the process to make the experience as enjoyable and pain free as possible.  We only use high quality logging contractors that are competent, responsible, fully insured, and dependable.  All of our logging contractors are trained through either Certified Logging Professional (CLP) or Master Logger Certification Program.  DTMC handles all aspects of the timber harvesting process as your agent.  We handle all harvest planning, boundary line flagging and harvest layout, forest product marketing, logger contracting and supervision, harvest permitting and notification requirements, record-keeping, reporting, and delivery of revenue.  We do require a 15 forested acres minimum to consider timber harvesting services.

Harvest Planning
The first step in conducting a timber harvest is drafting a harvest plan.  The harvest plan is built around the landowner goals and objectives for their property.  The plan states the goals and objectives and delivers a cutting prescription to best meet those goals.  The harvesting planning stage analyzes a lot of logistical considerations such as timber markets, harvesting system, landing location, environmental concerns, cultural concerns, time of year for harvest, etc.

Harvest Layout
After the planning stage and before the equipment arrives on site, our foresters work to layout the timber harvest on your property.  This begins with locating and flagging the boundary lines to your property in pink ribbon.  Locating and marking the boundary lines is a critical step in preventing timber trespass and is required in accordance with Maine harvesting laws.  The next step in harvest layout is to layout skid trails and start marking timber.  Skid trails are laid out in the most efficient manner while also having the least amount of environmental impact.  Timber is marked in accordance to the silvicultural cutting prescription in the harvest plan.

Harvesting Permitting and Notification
DTMC handles all of the necessary paperwork on your behalf that is required to harvest timber on your land.  DTMC files a Harvest Notification with the state of Maine on your behalf.  All federal, state, and municipal laws are followed so the harvest is in full compliance with the law.

Logger Contracting
DTMC handles all of the logging and trucking contracting on behalf of the landowner.  We utilize high quality contractors that we have good working relationships with.  We regularly work with the same crews and they understand the expectations and standards we have for our timber harvesting operations.  Having a quality logger can make a world of difference in the finished product on your property.  We handle paying the contractors directly for their work.
